AJAX Google Maps Tutorial
This Google Maps tutorial is a good walkthough on how to add Google Maps to your own website. It explains how to add points, the map controls, and labels to the map itself.
You need to find the Geo Location you want to point to. This can be found free at geocoder.us.
Yahoo! Sponsored Search Now Live
Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006 - TODAY Yahoo! announced it has begun inviting US advertisers to upgrade their accounts to include the new Sponsored Search.
"We've been thoroughly testing our systems to help ensure a quality experience once advertiser accounts are upgraded, and we are now beginning the process of inviting advertisers to upgrade their accounts."
Invitations will be sent in stages to U.S. advertisers over the remainder of the year and early next year. You will be notified of your upgrade date at least two weeks in advance. You will also be able to access a preview of what your account will look like after the upgrade. The new control panel, which is titled the Yahoo! Marketing Solutions center, will have new features and a new layout.
If you are wanting to jump right into the new Sponsored Search you can request your upgrade be scheduled as soon as possible by filling out the Online Request Form.
Also of note, Yahoo! mentions that they will be changing the way ads are ranked in 2007.
Please note that there will be no change to the way listings are ranked for the remainder of 2006; they will continue to be ranked by bid as they are today. Early next year, we will change the way ads are ranked, taking ad quality into account, as well as bid.
If you want to learn more about the upcoming changes or Sponsored Search you can visit the Yahoo! Upgrade Center.

WordPress Related Entries Plug-in
A neat little tool that I will be installing to show related entries. My blog tends to be a bit broad in scope at times and perhaps this will help the usability.

Reduce File Sizes (.psd, .pdf, .swf, .fla…)
If you want to reduce your file size of most Adobe products, when you are done designing the file always do a "save as" to a different file name.
Apparently original files will retain deleted elements thus increasing the file size unnecessarily because of things that no longer exist. This is especially good for web enabled files like .swf's and .pdf's.
This may also contribute to better SEO practices because of cleaner code and smaller file sizes for those search engines that can read and interpret Flash and PDF (like Google).

Dynamic Sites Search Friendly
I was doing some research on dynamic and e-commerce sites in regards to making them search friendly today. I came across a post from Search Engine Watch from 2002 about that topic. It is interesting to see how the search engines have adapted somewhat to where they were only a few years ago.
Still the same principles remain today that they did then, make the sites search friendly, dont use random character string url's, be descriptive, etc. To quote a line in the post:
First, think "static" pages.
Being able to upload and manage a "feed" of a database for inclusion is also helpful in keeping product and item data up to date. Several search engines have this ability, Google has several API methods for example.

Search Engine Gets Ahead of Itself
The day after url.com opened its doors to the public, they have closed them again. Going to the public www.url.com page yeilds the result:
URL.com - a whole new way of searching, coming this Fall!
Sorry - it seems that we got too big too fast. Please excuse us while we go back to re-architect things.
(Beta users: the secret url should still work...)
It still works for those with the special login, like myself, from the previous closed beta testing of the social search engine that remains, again, in development. Hopefully it is a minor issue and can be resolved shortly, but unfortunately is going to get some negative press resulting from having to close the public pilot.
