New message in Google AdWords: Click to Call ads! Looks like this perhaps is the reason for the downtime they experienced on the 9th. One ponders what is coming on the scheduled Google AdWords downtime Jan 13th, 2007.
New click to call ads can put customers on the phone with you the moment they see your ad.
Make an instant connection and pay only for calls you receive.
According to the info sheet from Google, web users click an and and then enter their phone number. Then Google calls them instantly and then conference (basically) you in to the call. That is when Google charges your account for the click. The plus side is that it is not long distance at least.
I can see several draw backs with this service… if you can find some people you don’t like it could be a great way to prank someone (ie. Bart vs. Moe ~ Simpsons).
Secondly, on a more practical side, it makes things harder to track conversions or ROI , which from a search marketing point of view makes management and expense tracking difficult to say the least.
