Iron Vine is committed to supporting the greater global community whenever possible. Our work with U.S. international agencies has taken us to many countries worldwide, including Nepal. One of our dearest partnerships is with the SCIF (Supporting Children Initiative Foundation) Orphanage in Kathmandu.
SCIF was originally founded by Basanta Nepali to help his paralyzed sister. Following a massive earthquake in 2012, Basanta was asked to bring in more children, despite not having any money. As a result, he relied on donations and volunteer work to support the growing orphanage.
Iron Vine’s work brought us to Nepal in 2018, where we met Basanta and the children. Our relationship with SCIF has blossomed as we’ve worked with and visited them over the years.
Since our first visit, Iron Vine has helped SCIF by purchasing and installing a clean drinking water system for the property, delivering laptops to the children to aid in schoolwork and research, and bringing supplies and necessities for the group when they moved into a new home.
In the Summer of 2022, Iron Vine team members Robert and Troy traveled to Nepal in support of one of our clients. While there, they made a special trip to hand-carry laptop batteries to replace ones in the laptops we had previously provided to SCIF. Basanta requested this, since the orphanage could not find the batteries locally. While there, Robert and Troy toured the facilities and visited with the children and Basanta. Additionally, we provided much-needed financial support for basic necessities for the house and children — including support for supplies for the 2022 academic session. This included funds for school books, uniforms, school bags, stationary items, exam fees, their computer lab, and lunches.
“[The] children have so many new things for their school now. They are so happy and excited to learn. Thank you so much for your big support. We will update you [on] their school progress.”Basanta Nepali, SCIF Orphanage Nepal
We are grateful for our relationship with SCIF, and look forward to our continued partnership and growth throughout the rest of this year and beyond. If you would like to learn more about SCIF or how to contribute, contact us or visit their website at: volunteerworknepal.com
